VOL 30, ISSUE 4. DECEMBER 2016
Hi! I’m Kayla and I’m twenty-eight years old. Growing
up I did not know God. I was raised in a dysfunctional
family by both of my parents. I have a younger brother
who is twenty-five. We were really close growing up.
Because of the chaos in my home I became the protector
of my mom. I was fearful and started running from my
problems. I started drinking and smoking pot when I was
sixteen. I experienced other drugs such as ecstasy,
cocaine, acid and mushrooms just to fit in and because I
enjoyed the feeling. After graduating from high school I
worked at a hospital where I hurt my back. Then came the
pain pills, opiates, and oxycodone (which had the
strongest hold on me).
I fell slave to the opiates which turned into heroin. I
would do anything to get my hands on that drug.
Eventually I lost my job. I landed in jail several times and
destroyed relationships with my family. I used men and
people to get what I needed.
Many nights I cried out to God asking Him to take me. I
would have rather died than felt that pain. I believed that
no one loved me and I was overwhelmed with guilt and
shame.
Well God heard me! I was living in my car at my rock
bottom looking for help. I was referred to Agape Home
through a Christian Rehab in my home town. I had
nowhere else to go. My family wanted nothing to do with
me and couldn’t give me the help I needed.
Agape Home accepted me. Since being in the program, I
came to know who God is and that He is a God of
miracles. He has taught me how to love unconditionally
and I am worthy of love. He has restored my relationships
with my family and has given me natural happiness. He is
my healer! I have no more back pain! I thank God every
day for how much He has changed me!
